Wine class before our presentations
This is my last full week of classes, which means lots of projects, presentations, and wrapping up before exams next week. I had presentations in my wine class and artistic monuments class this week. On Monday we had our last class visit for artistic monuments, where we visited Triana - the neighborhood next to where I live, which is famous for its ceramics. I have enjoyed this class so much, and I now have an incredible amount of knowledge about the city that I have been living in. After class I went to the store to buy a bottle of wine for my presentation later that day. Only in Spain do I need to buy a bottle of wine for SCHOOL! I made the finishing touches on my presentation, which was about the Denomination of Origen Lanzarote - the island in the Canary Islands that I visited earlier this semester to scuba dive. I learned about the wine of that region when I visited the island, so I was excited to research it further. My presentation went well and I also enjoyed learning about my classmates' regions through their presentations.
On Wednesday I had a presentation for my artistic monuments class and SAIIE. We could choose any monument in the city to research and give a 15 minute presentation to the class. I chose the Basilica de la Milagrosa, a project that was never finished. The architect of the famous Plaza de España wanted to create a cathedral that is even larger than the Catedral de Sevilla, which is already the largest gothic cathedral in the world! Unfortunately the architect died only a year after starting the project so it was never completed. I visited the spot where the cathedral construction started, which is now a park in the middle of the city. It was hard for me to imagine what that area would look like with a giant cathedral there instead! After presentations we reviewed some information for our exam next week. We have Monday off, since Sunday is a holiday, which means I only have one day of classes left before I go home! Time has truly flown - especially these last few busy weeks!
