This week my classes have started to pick up. While the first week was very introductory we have now started learning more and getting outside the classroom in many of my classes. My one class through SAIIE is based around the historic monuments in Sevilla, so every day is a field trip day. This has been incredible for me, as I am much more of a hands-on learner. By physically being at the monuments as we learn about the history and culture, I can connect the content to the real things that I am experiencing. We have been learning a lot so far, mostly about the Roman influence on Sevilla, as they occupied the city for a very long time. My painting class has been very fun as well. We are starting with drawing so we can get a base level of skills on things like sketching and perspective. We practiced drawing human forms by sketching the statues that are actually on display throughout the university! In my photography class we have been learning about different techniques and some photographs that our professor has taken. We used mirrors to make creative images one day, then another day we tore up postcards to compare the picture on the postcard to what the sites look like in real life. I have learned a lot about wine in my last class of the day. We started by talking about wine classifications and we have moved into talking about the parts of the grape, the grape plant, and all the steps of the process to create wine. We are going to start learning how to taste wine properly soon, and I am excited to see how I can connect what we have learned so far to the actual finished product!
