YouTube for ELs

YouTube for ELs

YouTube is helpful for working with ELs. Videos pique interest, build background knowledge, review essential vocabulary, provide sensory supports, and reinforce essential concepts.

YouTube videos also include numerous built-in scaffolds.

1.To provide captions, simply click the CC button. Students are then able to read what they are hearing in the video.

2. To make videos more comprehensible, slow the speed of the video by adjusting the speed to .75.

3. To provide L1 support, show students how to turn on the captions for their native language. YouTube offers auto-generated translations in 35 different languages.

4. Provide a transcript by clicking on the three dots. Copy and paste the transcript into a document to create a cloze activity or share the transcript as a reading passage.
