ELs face numerous challenges when learning Math in U.S. schools. These include unknown content-specific vocabulary, confusing grammar and syntax, use of homonyms and synonyms. Therefore, teachers need to make sure that they focus on content AND language simultaneously. ELs need to have access to language needed to understand Math instruction and also to demonstrate their grasp of Math concepts.
