Self-Created Learner Portraits

Learner portraits are useful tools that highlight a student's background, strengths, and goals. Learner portraits provide a better view of a learner because they focus on more than test scores and grades. However, most learner portraits are written by an educator.

This ELL2.0 learner portrait is designed to be completed by an expert -- the actual learner. This self-created learner profile includes the traditional information included in a learner portrait with the addition of reflective, metacognitive, and expressive prompts that encourage goal-setting and self-advocacy. These portraits could be completed during individual conferences or as an entire class with prompting and guidance from a teacher.

Choose between a printable copy or an editable slide deck that encourages visual and written responses. We suggest revisiting these portraits a few times each year.
