Text Makeover

Making a Text Comprehensible

Text Makeover

Adding scaffolds to a text doesn't need to take hours! This makeover took about 10 minutes.

Step 1: Chunk the text into smaller parts. Make the sentences shorter and linguistically simplify when it makes sense to do so.

Step 2: Offer vocabulary support by putting key terms in bold and offering a synonym, if possible.

Step 3: Add a title to the text. This headline gives a preview for each of the three chunks of text.

Step 4. Add images to support comprehension for each chunk.

Step 5. Add audio. Use a site like Vocaroo to record your voice. Then copy and paste the link for students to listen to. (To make the text prettier, insert a speaker image 🔈 and hyperlink the audio link to the 🔈.)
