Formerly known as the Shaeffer-Campbell (35-23-46) Covered Bridge, while it served in Fairfield County, it crossed the Clear Creek in Clear Creek Township. The Bridge was moved in 1975 to Ohio University Branch Campus in Belmont County. County workers dismantled the Bridge in Fairfield and numbered each piece of the timber. A sketch was drawn to assist in the reconstruction of the Bridge on Ohio University's Belmont Campus.
The old Shaeffer-Campbell Covered Bridge is 68-feet long and now sits over a small lake. Walkways have been built on either side of the Bridge portals to allow foot traffic to cross the lake. Origially built in 1891, the Bridge was constructed with a multiple kingpost truss. It has reddish-brown wood siding. The Bridge has a beautiful setting and is in good condition. Available for pedestrian traffic only.
