Harshaville Covered Bridge
The Harsha family had a mill located next to the Harshaville Bridge. The community and the Bridge were named after this family. The Bridge crosses Cherry Fork Creek, which is a tributary of Ohio Brush Creek. Ohio Brush Creek is the primary stream that drains Adams County.
The Harshaville Covered Bridge was built in 1860. Originally, the Harshaville Bridge was a single span, but now it is supported by two concrete piers located at quarter points. The Bridge rests on the original creek stone abutments. The truss is a multiple kingpost truss encased by a double Burr arch. The truss in this Bridge is particularly interesting because the center penel of the multiple kingpost truss is doubled. The Bridge is about 90-feet in length and 16-feet in width. Harshaville Bridge was rehabilitated in 1960. (Covered Bridges Today 1989 by Brenda Krekeler)
