Project-based learning
Project-based learning is a dynamic approach that includes rigor and relevance in standards-based teaching through real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they're studying. To ensure that the rigor and relevance is appropriate every instructor must create and get approval from their department for all GRASP prior to issuing a project. The instructor must also construct and get approval from the department for the rubric that will be used prior to issuance of the project.
GRASP
GOAL:
A defined goal is one of the most powerful tools you can leverage on behalf of your own success. Being able to clearly envision the end result you seek, to the point that it becomes embedded in your consciousness and drives your every action is the key to its achievement.
ROLE:
The role is the defined part that you expect the student to play throughout the project. You can also give the students the expectations for their role.
AUDIENCE:
The audience informs the student as to whom they are presenting to.
SITUATION:
The situation refers generally to what you want the student to do. You may include a statement as to the relevance of the activity, percentage accounting for final grade, expectations and any additional notes for the student.
PRODUCT:
The product section gives the student the expectations for acceptable formulation and collection of materials
