INSERT CISCO FORM For PHONES
At CHEC, we communicate in a variety of formats, face to face, electronically, and on paper. As we try to move toward a more paperless environment, we are relying more on e-mail. Every faculty member should have a functional DCPS e-mail. Once onboarding session is complete, a dc.gov email address will be sent a few weeks later to the personal email submitted to the DCPS HR office. It is important to check your DCPS e-mail at least twice a day. We also put most major communication in paper form, and they are placed in the mailboxes. You should also check your mailbox at least twice a day.
E-mail is to be used for work related purposes only. Any mass e-mails that you wish to send to the entire staff, must first be approved by the Principal, and then they will be sent by the main office through the list serve.
Every Monday, a weekly bulletin is published, both electronically and on paper. The Bulletin includes all important information on events, announcements, instructional goals for the week, recognitions, celebrations, and research. If you wish to get an announcement or other item published, please e-mail it to the Principal by Friday afternoon, so it can be published by the following Monday. The Bulletin has extremely important information – please be sure to read it completely.
DCPS E-mail Compliance
Our District of Columbia Public Schools (“DCPS”) email accounts allow us to communicate with our colleagues more efficiently and effectively, so we can better support our students. We do not own these accounts, however; the District of Columbia government does. As such, there should be no expectation of privacy in any message sent to or from a DCPS email account. In fact, under the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”), members of the public and the media can obtain DCPS email upon request. With this in mind, please review the information below to ensure you are using your email for work-appropriate purposes only. Those who use their email accounts inappropriately may have their accounts frozen and risk disciplinary action.
Prohibited Uses
The following are examples of inappropriate and prohibited uses of your DCPS email:
1. Advertising or promoting any private business enterprise or activity
2. Sending or forwarding any sexually explicit material
3. The use of profane, discriminatory or harassing language
4. Sending or forwarding chain letters of any kind
5. Setting your account to forward automatically to an outside email address
Permitted Uses
The following are examples of permissible uses of your DCPS email:
· Communication directly related to your work
· Research in support of your work
· Incidental personal purposes, so long as such use does not:
o Interfere in any way with the operation of the D.C. government’s computer or email systems;
o Burden the D.C. government with additional cost; or
o Interfere in any way with your employment or obligations to DCPS.
· Announcement of DCPS procedures, policies, rules, services, programs, information or activities, so long as such announcements comply with the policies developed by the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (“OCTO”) and the DCPS Office of Family and Public Engagement
Questions? Comments? Concerns?
If you have any questions about the email policy or information about potential violations, contact the DCPS Office of Compliance at (202) 442-5885.
