The Career Development Office is designed to help all students make career choices and a successful transition from school to the workplace by structuring educational experiences around the MSB and MCA clusters.
The primary role of the Career Development Office is to assist students in deciding a suitable career path with the aid of teachers and all staff members. The other responsibilities of the CDO include, providing all students with employability skills and job readiness preparation, so that they may obtain meaningful employment. The office will be implementing a series of workshops on how to market and sell yourself. Writing resumes, networking, how to fill out an application, telephone etiquette, and questions to expect during an interview and job hunting blunders to avoid. The CDO identifies the student’s interest through career assessments and learning styles inventories that help the students and staff determines what types of careers the students would be successful in and enjoy.
The Career Development Office recruits and acts as a liaison between the school and local partnership community. Some activities and interests include, but are not limited to, student internship, teacher externships, job shadowing, guest speakers, career field trips, mentorship, and judges for portfolio presentations. The CDO is also responsible for work permits, cluster partnerships and career curriculum design. For example, Cisco Systems, Associated Builder and Contractors Inc. (ABC), and ExxonMobil are a few examples of partners that work with teachers and students at Bell.
The CDO is part of the Support Services at Bell and work in conjunction with the counseling department.
