COLLABORATIVE PLANNING
As contracted by DCPS, teachers are required to use the ½ hour in the morning for collaborative planning. Teachers should this time to develop lessons, examine students and teacher work and build assessments. Attendance at collaborative team meeting is required. Additionally, teams are afforded, whenever possible, common planning time in order to support the collaboration required in ensuring a common quality core instruction for all our students.
NEW TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM
To assist beginning teachers and experienced teachers who are new to CHEC, we have created a CHEC NEW TEACHER induction program. The meetings times are every Tuesday immediately after school for one hour in the Middle School Library.
As a Professional Learning Community, we promote the involvement of all stakeholders. The following committees play an important role in moving all students towards higher achievement. The Local School Restructuring Team (LSRT) is composed of elected representatives of teachers, students, parents and the community, as well as the principal and building representative. This committee serves as the school site council. The following committees and teams work on specific issues or interests and provide input into school operation.
I. Attendance Committee: This committee studies attendance and tardiness problems, and proposes and implements strategies and policies to improve student attendance Contact: Antonia Lora/ Toni Peevey
II. SST Team: This team identifies students in need of intervention, and proposes and implements an assessment process to determine the need for Special Education services. Contact: SLC Administrators
III. Advisory-Committee: This committee designs the advisor-advisee program to make it more effective. Contacts: GRADE LEVEL COUNSELORS
IV. Literacy Task Force: This group studies effective literacy strategies, and updates the Literacy Action Plan to reflect staff and student needs. Contact: Jacqueline Vialpando-Strickland, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, and Designated Assistant Principal(s)
V. Safety, Security and Discipline Committee: This committee assesses security, climate and discipline needs, and proposes programs, activities and policies. Contact: Kiah Campbell
VI. Leadership Team: This team works on promoting our growth as a professional learning community, designing development, and tuning student and teacher work. Contact: Maria Tukeva
VII. Personnel Committee: This committee provides input into the process of selecting new personnel. Contact: Maria Tukeva
VIII. Hospitality Committee: This committee organizes activities, events and celebrations promote a sense of community. Contact: Deborah Buckmon
IX. Professional Development Committee: This committee is works on designing and planning professional development for the school. It is a subcommittee of the Leadership Team. Contact: Maria Tukeva
