Other Pre-Season Info

Cross Country Information Packet- This is an introductory packet for all members, including information on forms due, summer training, coaches contact info, tryouts and other cross country references.

Summer Workout Calendar- This is a schedule of workouts for June/July to help guide your summer training. It is a progression to help you build up your fitness and strength, and prepare you for the season ahead. This is a suggested progression, but you can change it up a bit to fit travel schedules as needed. Please remember that while there are dates on the calendar, to avoid injury, you do need to start at Week One, regardless of when you actually start your summer training.

Cross Country Meet/Practice Schedule- This lists all dates/times for August practices, meets, and other team events. Please put them on your calendar now.

List /Calendar

Types of Workouts- This provides an explanation for the different types of workouts we do (see Workout Calendar), and why they are important.

Blue Ridge Running Camp- Please note that this is NOT our team camp, but it is a very good cross country camp, held the week before tryouts. It is from July 25-30,2021 , at Eastern Mennonite University (right near JMU). While this is certainly not required, it is a wonderful opportunity to build on your training, in beautiful, challenging courses, led by some of the best coaches in VA. While there are ability groups for all levels, this is probably better suited for advanced runners.

Pre-Season Practice/Workout Schedule- This is a schedule of all practices & workouts for August, before we return to school. Please check the time and location for each day, as they may vary slightly, depending upon where we are meeting.

=PR= Team Shoe Night- This is scheduled for Thursday, August 5th at the =PR= Running store in Fairfax Corner. The store will be closed at 7:45 for just our team members. This is a good opportunity to get fitted for shoes (trainers or racing flats). It is valuable to have a personal evaluation at least once. Discounts will be given to all athletes & parents on shoes and apparel.

Pre-Season Meeting Agenda- Our pre-season meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 31st at 11 am. All athletes are expected to attend, along with at least one parent. We will hand out the Team Handbook, go over team rules & expectations, and collect any remaining paperwork. This meeting will be virtual...The link can be accessed HERE

Cross Country Camp

Lost River Cross Country Camp- Every August, our team goes to a four day, three night camp in West Virginia. This is not required, but it is an expectation of all team members. The cost is $350 (Check made out to CHS Cross Country. Athletes are required to turn in their permission slip and luggage form.

Please check also for packing list, itinerary, rooming list and breakdown of camp activity teams (you should bring a shirt or item of clothing with your team color on it).

Spirit Packs

All athletes need to have the following items:

  • Singlet

  • Team Shorts/Spandex

  • Team Shirt

All other items (sweats, etc) are optional.

The singlet is the same one used for indoor track (but not cross country). The team shirt is unique to outdoor track. If you have both from last year, you do not need to purchase anything.

Please note that we will have the Spirit Pack store open for a short time once the season begins. It is your responsibility to order your uniform (through Cassel's Sports & Awards). Please do NOT order your uniform until you have made the team, through tryouts. There will be no refunds for athletes who order uniforms if they do not tryout, or subsequently quit the team. Athletes who tryout and do not make the team will be cancelled.

Athletes must purchase their singlet directly from Coach Gilchrist, bringing a check for $35.00 made out to CHANTILLY CROSS COUNTRY. Please put the athlete's name and size in the memo.

The Spirit Pack store (for all other items) can be found here . The store will be open until Saturday, August 7th.

Fundraiser

We will be conducting our fall fundraiser from August 16th-September 13th. It is expected that everyone participates, with a goal of $100 raised per athlete. We will be holding an online solicitation campaign. Athletes are to provide emails of family, close friends or relatives who might be willing to contribute to our fundraiser.

Please note that you are NOT required to solicit funds via email, if you prefer to provide donations directly (Checks should be made out to CHS Cross Country).

Information on the fundraiser can be found here.
