Having been a Witness for some 40 years there has been a great emphasis on the concept of our "christian brotherhood" and the "pure language"( I have no argument with teaching of the WT). In recent times the separation of the GB from the legal entity of the WTB&TS; has been made. However there seems to be a resultant culture, not unlike large corporations that has remained at the congregational level. This is evidenced by the hierarchical structure of congregations with the pursuit of of positions of responsibility being fundamental to being either considered a success or failure. Also, the constant emphasis on statistics in measuring spirituality has, as number of contributors to this site noted, divided brothers and caused much unhappiness. The publication "Commentary on the Letter of James" however was a breath of fresh air as it highlighted the areas where the first century Christians had deviated and was a warning to us not to allow ourselves to fall into a "worldly" way of thinking and action. We seem to have failed to some degree!
So the question:
Are we a corporation or a brotherhood?
Your thoughts please.
