Subject: [BibleStudents] Conceptzia (please read through to the bottom there are many interesting thoughts to consider in this article.) jc
"Conceptzia" was the term coined by the Agranat Commission (in Israel) to describe the intelligence failure that led to the surprise of the Yom
Kippur War (1973).
As someone at Tel Aviv University explained, "It is much more than a mistake."
"It is a fundamentally flawed understanding of events that prevents one from seeing what is before his eyes."
=================================================
What does this mean? It means having a pre-conceived concept or world-view, such that everything that is read or seen (like world events) is not accepted for what it really is, but is rather "forced" to fit into the pre-conceived concept.
Israeli intelligence had the view that the Arabs WOULD NOT fight, because they did not have the will to do so; and they COULD NOT fight because they didn't have enough weapons or else were not well-trained in those they did have. Their opinion of the Arab abilities was very low.
There were plenty of obvious facts and warning signs to the contrary --- but these were all either ignored, or forced into the "conceptzia" that there would be no war.
And yet, war DID come. And Israel was surprised --- almost fatally so.
-------------------------------
At the 1st advent of Jesus, the "wise" of that time (scribes, pharisees, lawyers, etc.) could not see or recognize what was right before their eyes.
Why not? Because they had a fundamentally-flawed "conceptzia" of what the Messiah would be like, and do, when he came. They could not recognize the Messiah in the carpenter from Nazareth who went about doing good. The common people were not afflicted so much with this "conceptzia", and so, many recognized Jesus for what he was. But not so the "wise".
This "conceptzia" by the rulers was fatal, as it led to the rejection of the nation of Israel by Jesus, and its ultimate destruction some 40 years later.
--------------------------------
The 7th-day Adventists have the view that the disappointment of 1844(when Christ did not visibly return) was really a case of expecting the wrong thing at the right time. What happened, they say, is that Christ began His "investigative judgment" in the heavens (invisible, of course) --- examining the records of all who have ever lived, prior to judging their case in the great Judgment Day, and that he continues that duty to this very day.
Locked into this "conceptzia", the Adventists have made no progress since 1844. They cry "Why doesn't the 'latter rain' (of truth) come and refresh us?". But it will never come to them, as they are locked into a fundamentally-flawed view of what supposedly happened over 150 years ago.
Their "conceptzia" keeps them locked into the past errors.
-------------------------------
The Laymen's Home Missionary Movement (LHMM) and the Watch Tower Society share a common "conceptzia" (although they have many differences) that the "upward calling" to a spiritual class is closed --- has been closed since about 1914.
Because of that view, they each had to invent some kind of earthly hope for their followers, in order to maintain their respective organizations. Such hope is man-made, and not Scriptural, and hence fruitless. So they languish in this false "conceptzia" of Jonadabs and Modern Worthies. They may indeed have many members, and even be increasing in size, but any steps they take forward in "new light" are actually steps further away from the truth.
Because of a flawed "conceptzia".
-------------------------------
Many Bible Students also have a "conceptzia" that a number of prophetic expectations at least BEGAN their fulfilment in the last 125 years or so (invisibly, of course).
Locked into this "conceptzia", each world event that comes along is hailed as a fulfilment of prophecy, another step forward in the setting up of the Kingdom, or the binding of Satan, or the "grinding" of the nations to "powder" --- but not seeing these world events for what they truly are, and that is --- PREPARATION.
Preparation for the return of Jesus.
Preparation for the setting up of the Kingdom.
Preparation for the great day of God's Wrath.
Br. Russell (whom we all appreciate very much) was locked into a "conceptzia" of a 40-year harvest. And yet, near the end of his ministry he was able to break free from this to a degree (but not completely so).
In R5950 ("The Harvest Is Not Ended" --- Sept. 1916), he expressed his appreciation of the Elijah-Elisha types, and also Elijah's vision (where he saw wind, earthquake, fire, and then a still small voice), and he felt that the present war (World War I) was NOT the end, but was merely the start of the war phase --- to be followed by a revolution phase, and then an anarchy phase, and then the Kingdom.
Because of his "conceptzia", however, he couldn't see where this would take much longer than perhaps 3 years. Actual history, that we have experienced since his death in 1916, shows that the time span is actually much longer. The war phase indeed seems to have started in 1914, and may still be continuing. It would seem that the revolution and anarchy phases are yet future, and the Kingdom even more future (yet still relatively close).
---------
We would do well to listen to Br. Russell's words in the first sentenceof R5950 --- '...our expectations must not be allowed to weigh anything against the facts."
--------
We have seen actual world events that Br. Russell never could have dreamed of.
The spiritual class is still being drawn and prepared, some 87 years after Br. Russell's death. This would have been impossible for him to consider, as it was totally outside the realm of his 40-year "conceptzia"--- and yet, here we are !
Bible Students today, who have been reared on the concepts of "feet members" of the church, and the "harvest", have now (because of the passage of time) come up with "heel" (or "toe") members, and "gleanings". What's next? "Toenail" members? "Single-grain" pickings? Such strained, non-Biblical concepts are evidence that something is wrong with the initial "conceptzia".
The "conceptzia" says that the "general call" has ended, and only "replacements" are now being called. But look at the work going on in India and Africa. Many hundreds, if not thousands, are being drawn to the truth. Are these all "replacements"? Again, because of a flawed "conceptzia", what is plainly obvious right in front of our eyes, is mis-labelled and mis-placed.
Think! What is REALLY happening?
It's time to throw off that fundamentally-flawed "conceptzia" (of past "invisible" fulfilments, or beginning of fulfilments), and go back and re-think the last 125 years of history. What really happened? And what did NOT really happen? Then we will be in a position to more correctly judge today's current events, and what they mean for fulfilment of
prophecy, and where we actually are on the stream of time, and what we can reasonably expect for the future.
