144,000 ON earth, as it is IN heaven

Most translations say the 144,000 will reign "upon, over, on" the earth. NJB translates "to rule the world." It is hard to fathom how a disciple of Jesus who never entertained a Heavenly Hope would exist in such a place after death and would preceive their rulership was from a 'dwelling' abode in heaven. This idea is only pondered upon after the Great Apostasy. Were the Apostle wrong to believe they were promised to be kings and priests "upon, over, on" the earth while living "in" the earth? No. I entreat you to consider that Mankind have been misled since the prophetically fortold Apostasy. Now as we (in the present world) are infected by the prophetic Apostasy world wide, is it any wonder that CTR and the current teaching of the JW's 2,000 years later still preach the false hope of heavenly life for any humans (kings and priests) other than Jesus Christ whom is the only one to come down from heaven?
