The timber rattlesnake, massasauga rattlesnake, and the copperhead are venomous snakes in New York. Do not try to touch a snake, and keep a good distance from venomous snakes.
-obvious blood or wounds
-unable to move
-issues with their scales
-discharge from the eyes, nose, or mouth
-swelling
-lethargic
-other general signs of injury and illness
If the snake has been attacked by an animal, looks injured near a road, or shows any of the signs of injury and illness, contact a wildlife rehabilitator.
Snakes do not need their mother once they have hatched. If you see a baby snake, leave it alone unless it shows signs of injury or illness.
