Signs that a deer is orphaned: Mothers leave their fawn alone most of the day so never approach a baby deer that is alone. Stay away as getting near a fawn can prevent the mother from returning. If the fawn is showing signs or fear such as labored breathing, crying, walking around and vocalizing, weakness, any sign of injury or illness, or the mother is clearly dead, contact a wildlife rehabilitator.
