The oil, salt, and other materials on human hands can harm salamanders as their skin is very absorbent. Do not touch salamanders.
-obvious blood or wounds
-injuries to the legs or tails
-unable to move
-infections on the skin
-other general signs of injury and illness
If the salamander has been attacked by an animal or shows any of the signs of injury and illness, contact a wildlife rehabilitator.
Baby salamanders will be able to survive without their mother. If you see a baby salamander, leave it alone unless it shows signs of injury or illness.
