Petralia Soprana is a small town in the centre of Sicily. It is situated on the top of a mountain which is 1147 meters above sea level . It is in the heart of Madonie mountain range. Probably its name cames from “Petra” because it was built on a plateau of stony nature. From this wonderfull town you can see the Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe on the East and , on the Ouest Saint Calogero Mountain, near Termini Imerese.

Petralia Soprana has about 3119 inhabitans. There are also many hamlets that surrounded the town , the most populated are are : Fasanò, Pianello, Verdi , San Giovanni, and Raffo famous for its salt mine .

Petralia Soprana has a predominantly mountainous surface of 56,58 sq.Km crossed by the Salso river. The highest peak is Pizzo Corvo about 1657m above sea level.
