According to Fortune Business Insights, the global bioanalytical testing services market size was valued at USD 5.72 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow from USD 6.26 billion in 2026 to USD 12.30 billion by 2034, registering a CAGR of 8.8% during 2026-2034. North America dominated the market in 2025 with a 43.53% revenue share. The market is being driven by the expansion of pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D pipelines, increasing outsourcing of bioanalytical activities, growing development of biologics and advanced therapeutic modalities, and rising demand for precision medicine.
Bioanalytical testing services involve the identification and quantification of drugs, metabolites, biomarkers, and other biological components in biological samples. These services play an important role throughout the drug development process, including discovery, preclinical studies, and clinical trials.
The increasing number of drug candidates entering development is generating greater demand for pharmacokinetic and toxicokinetic analysis, immunogenicity testing, biomarker analysis, pharmacodynamic analysis, and metabolite profiling. Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies are also increasingly outsourcing specialized testing activities to contract research organizations (CROs) and contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), supporting market expansion.
The market is experiencing strong growth as pharmaceutical companies expand their R&D pipelines across oncology, metabolic disorders, neurological diseases, rare diseases, and other therapeutic areas. Each new drug candidate requires bioanalytical testing at different stages of development, creating sustained demand for specialized analytical services.
The development of biologics and advanced therapeutic modalities is another important growth factor. Complex therapies require sophisticated analytical methods and testing capabilities, encouraging pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to work with specialized service providers.
Increasing healthcare expenditure and the expansion of clinical research activities are also supporting demand. The growing number of CROs and CDMOs is helping pharmaceutical companies access advanced testing capabilities without making the same level of investment in internal laboratory infrastructure.
Digitalization and automation are emerging as important trends in bioanalytical testing. Laboratories are increasingly adopting robotic liquid handlers, automated sample-preparation systems, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and cloud-connected analytical platforms.
These technologies can automate repetitive activities such as dilution, aliquoting, plate preparation, extraction, and quality-control sample generation. Automation can improve consistency, reduce manual variability, support real-time sample tracking, and strengthen data traceability.
Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies are increasingly outsourcing bioanalytical testing to specialized providers. Outsourcing enables drug developers to access specialized scientific expertise, advanced analytical technologies, and established laboratory infrastructure.
This trend is particularly relevant as drug development becomes more complex and companies seek to optimize development timelines and resources.
The increasing development and approval of biologics, biosimilars, monoclonal antibodies, and other advanced therapeutic modalities is generating demand for sophisticated bioanalytical testing.
Large molecules and conventional biologics accounted for the largest molecule segment in 2025, representing 39.9% of the global market.
Based on analytical testing type, the market is segmented into:
Pharmacokinetic/Toxicokinetic and Drug Concentration Analysis
Immunogenicity Testing
Biomarker and Pharmacodynamic Analysis
Metabolite Profiling and Identification
Others
The pharmacokinetic/toxicokinetic and drug concentration analysis segment held the largest revenue share in 2025. The segment benefits from the increasing number of drug development programs and the growing need to evaluate drug concentrations and exposure during development.
The immunogenicity testing segment is also expected to experience significant growth, with Fortune Business Insights projecting a 9.3% CAGR during the forecast period.
The market is divided into:
Small Molecules
Large Molecules & Conventional Biologics
Advanced Therapeutic Modalities
The large molecules & conventional biologics segment dominated in 2025 with a 39.9% market share. The growing development and approval of biosimilars, monoclonal antibodies, and other large-molecule therapies are increasing demand for complex bioanalytical testing services.
The market is segmented into:
Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
Ligand-Binding & Immunoassays
Flow Cytometry
Advanced technologies such as LC-MS/MS, mass spectrometry, immunoassays, and flow cytometry are becoming increasingly important as drug developers require accurate and sensitive analytical testing.
The market is categorized into:
Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Companies
CROs & CDMOs
Academic & Research Institutes
Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies represent an important end-user group because of their expanding drug development pipelines and increasing use of outsourced testing services.
North America held the leading position in the global market, accounting for 43.53% of the market in 2025. The regional market was valued at USD 2.49 billion in 2025. Growing clinical trial activity, a strong pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, and the presence of major bioanalytical service providers are supporting regional growth.
Europe is expected to register the second-highest growth rate during the forecast period. Increasing adoption of LC-MS/MS analysis, pharmaceutical R&D activities, and demand for advanced bioanalytical testing are contributing to the regional market.
Asia Pacific is projected to become the third-largest regional market. Expansion of laboratory capacity, increasing healthcare expenditure, and growth in pharmaceutical research are creating opportunities for bioanalytical testing service providers.
The U.S. accounted for approximately 40.4% of global sales in 2026, supported by its large number of clinical trials and well-established pharmaceutical and biotechnology ecosystem.
Japan accounted for approximately 4.6% of global revenues in 2026. Increasing investment in drug metabolism studies and bioanalytical assay development is supporting the country's market growth.
The expansion of pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D pipelines is a major market driver. Drug candidates require bioanalytical testing throughout different stages of development, creating consistent demand for testing services.
The growing complexity of drug development and the need for specialized technologies are encouraging pharmaceutical companies to outsource bioanalytical activities to CROs and specialized laboratories.
The increasing focus on precision medicine is creating demand for biomarkers and other analytical approaches that can help researchers better understand drug response and patient characteristics.
The high investment required for advanced analytical equipment can limit market growth, particularly for small and medium-sized laboratories. High-resolution mass spectrometers, LC-MS/MS systems, flow cytometers, multiplex immunoassay platforms, and automated liquid-handling systems require substantial capital investment.
Additional expenses related to laboratory infrastructure, data storage, nitrogen generators, uninterrupted power supplies, and facility upgrades can further increase operating costs.
The availability of skilled bioanalytical scientists is another challenge. Advanced testing requires specialized knowledge of analytical technologies, assay development, data interpretation, and regulatory requirements.
The expansion of healthcare infrastructure and clinical research capabilities in emerging economies presents significant opportunities. Countries such as India and Brazil are developing healthcare facilities, research centers, laboratories, and clinical research networks.
The increasing number of institutions participating in clinical research and collecting biological samples can create additional demand for outsourced bioanalytical testing services.
