Miss McLaughlin will be leading the Ospreys and Ms Moscardini will be helping out.
Continuing with our topic of measurement, we brought our learning outside to explore volume and capacity. We had lots of fun measuring different capacities of jugs and tubes, and looking at the scales!
We are learning how to estimate and accurately measure using classroom objects and rulers. We looked at using items such as glue sticks and pens to estimate the length of different objects and comparing them to accurate measurements using rulers! We also had a go at converting mm to cm by exploring the different scales on a ruler!
We have started looking at different artisits as a part of our new IDL topic. This week we looked at Picasso and Cubism. We experimented with oil pastels and shapes to create our own Cubist Masterpieces... take a look!
As part of our first term topic we have been looking at the story of "The Storm Whale". We decided to experiment with different materials and techniques to create our own version of Noi letting the whale go. We used a wet-on-dry water colour technique to create the waves, focussing on using our wrists to make swirls for the waves. We then collaged our different wave styles, and designed a detailed tail to place in between the waves. Have a look at the finished product below!
We made playdough fractions!
We have been investigating fractions, looking especially at how fractions are a part of a whole and how different they can look. We used playdough to create different fractions, making sure that each segment was equal. We have also been practising writing fractions in written and numerical form, and had some fun writing on the desks to match with our amazing fraction creations.
We have been doing lots of different Christmas crafts, getting reading for our School Show of the Grinch. We have been using different methods and materials to create our art including developing our collage skills, and learning different brush strokes when painting our gingerbread houses. It certainly feels like Christmas in the Ospreys!
We are very lucky to be able to Ski on the dry slope at Loch Insh on a Friday this term.
Everyone showed great team work when getting ready, making sure to help those of us who haven't skied before. We started off doing some runs in groups whilst some had a 1:1 lesson. Before we knew it, everyone was growing in confidence and having lots of fun going down the slope!
We had. a great morning and are looking forward to going back and working on our new skills.
We made our own T.Vs!
We learnt about John Logie Baird's invention of the television, and looked at how it has developed over time. We watched some videos looking at what the T.V used to sound like and investigated how it has changed in size, look and use! We couldn't believe it used to be in black and white and didn't have a remote!
In pairs we made our own junk-model televisions, using all the knowledge we had learnt. We used lots of patience and team work and the end results are great!
In groups we created marble runs!
We used STEM skills, enquiry skills and problem solving strategies to see which group could make a marble run that slowed down the marble the most. We learnt about friction and gravitational pull.
In order to become successful we had to use positive communication, resilience and critical thinking skills.
The winning group managed to slow the marble down by 8 seconds!
The Tidy Team took part in an Assembly this week. They shared with the school their main jobs of keeping the school tidy, and empyting the recyling bins. They also shared a reminder of how we use our new bin system and even organsied a whole school tidy up. The playground is looking tidier than ever!
We have started our new topic this term... Inventors and Inventions! The children put their critical thinking hats on to create a timeline of inventions past and present.
Starting with a few we already knew, they created links from their own knowledge and we filled in the gaps from there!
Using a mixture of paint and tissue paper, the class worked together to create this fantastic Osprey for our Cosy Corner. We are so proud of the end result!
P4/5 has a great Green and Global morning by helping out in the garden. There were lots of leaves to gather, rubbish to be thrown away and general tidying up. The garden is looking ready for Winter.
In IDL we have been learning all about different Festivals and Faiths around the world. We spent our last week of term making these amazing summary posters, filled with our new knowledge and some fantastic creativity too!
The Primary 5 pupils had a really exciting opportunity to go to Kingussie High School and learn all about the dualling of the A9.
They participated in lots of different team games and activities that showed all the different jobs it takes to re-build a road!
Our first big job as the Tidy Team was to reorganise the recycling bins. We took on the challenge, and now each class has three recycling bins labelled and ready to go!
We had lots of fun creating a class time capsule. Working together, we found the perfect spot in the playground to bury it, and we can't wait to dig it up next year!
