Welcome back everyone. We are really looking forward to learning lots over the new term. We are starting off with OUR SCHOOL and then looking at SENSATIONAL STORIES.
This is where we will post pictures to show you what we have been up to over the term.
Wow - an amazing display was created by Badgers this week to display our 14 skills which are used across all learning. They are really eye catching so please pop in to have a look.
P6 have taken part in their first Outdoor Learning session at Loch Insh. All the pupils had a go at perfecting their Archery skills. Plus, they had fun canoeing in the loch and racing each other.
Badgers had great fun participating in the various sporting activities.
The Badgers had fun participating in a workshop with Vicky from Eden Court. They worked on creating their stories and bringing them to life by acting them out.

Sensational Stories Project Term 2 Week 2
As part of their Sensational Stories Project the class created their own characters at home with amazing adjectives and adverbs to describe them! They presented them to class this week...
Halloween Term 2 Week 2
Alltnacriche Term 2 Week 3
The Primary 7 pupils attended their residential trip this week. They had an adventurous time taking part in zip wire, a rope course, making a campfire and their own bread, bouldering, archery and lots of fun team games!
Children in Need - Term 2 Week 4
The Badgers took part in the Children in Need run or walk a mile activity organised by the Pupil Council. As a school we managed to raise an amazing £69.26!
Science Fair - Term 2 Week 5
The Badgers attended the Science Fair at Kincraig Hall this week with the Foxes class. They learnt all about energy by conducting a series of experiments using electronic equipment, batteries and balloons.
Snack Shack - Term 2 Week 5
The Primary 6 class started their fundraising for Alltnacriche next year with their 1st Snack Shack! They did a great job of serving the Alvie pupils with snacks, counting the money and keeping stock of their items!
Pyramid Maths Game - Term 2 Week 6
The Badgers trialled the pyramid maths game to practice their mental maths skills. The aim was to pick a total number (the top of the pyramid) and use the cards to create that total using all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). It really put their mental maths and problem solving skills to the test.
Puppies - Term 2 Week 7
There was great excitement this week when Leah's Mum brought in their 3 puppies to visit the pupils. They were delighted to meet Honey, Clyde and Richmond, and got a chance for a cuddle before home time on Tuesday!
Eco-Village - Junk Modelling - Term 2 Week 7
The Badgers planned their eco-village this week - Edenburg! This included planning the energy source, how to source/grow food, how to treat nature, deal with waste and the transport infrastructure. The class also started building their junk models of various elements of the village.
The Badgers finished building their eco-village models and put them on display for the Christmas Snack Shack event for parents.
Primary 6 ran a Christmas Snack Shack for the Christmas light switch on this week. They served mince pies, cup cakes and hot juice to pupils and parents to raise money towards their Alltnacriche trip next year.
The Badgers made peppermint creams to sell at the Christmas Carol Concert as part of the Craft Fair. They did a great job of measuring, mixing and making the wee peppermint balls. Great team work and communication skills from all.
We concluded our Marvellous Materials Project with various science experiments this week. We focussed on material properties, and uses and dissolving. We studied the solubility of different types of materials in water, and the variables that affect dissolving including volume, stirring and heat. We concluded with making a hot chocolate, writing instructions of how to make one and an information handling survey, presentation and analysis on the school's favourite drink.
As part of our new project we've been very lucky to be joined by parents this week to talk to us about their countries and cultures. On Monday we were joined by Kat (Coral's Mum) who chatted to us about the Czech Republic. On Wednesday we were joined by Rachel (Lila's Mum) who told us all about Mexico, and Christian (Maiten's Dad) joined us to talk about Chile. The pupils enjoyed hearing all about their different cultures and asked lots of amazing questions! Thanks to Kat, Rachel and Christian for presenting!
As part of our current project we were very lucky to be joined by more parents again this week to talk to us about their countries and cultures. On Monday we were joined by Emma (Blair's Mum) who chatted to us about Zambia. On Friday we were joined by Nicole (Joep's Mum) who told us all about The Netherlands. The pupils enjoyed hearing all about their different cultures and asked lots of amazing questions. Thanks to Emma and Nicole for presenting!
As part of our current project The Badgers class organised a morning of activities on Friday for all classes to learn about Antarctica. We started with a presentation with lots of facts about the continent, followed by activities such as beat the goalie, a scavenger hunt and true or false to test our new knowledge! This was followed up by an art activity creating some impressive Antarctica animals. Well done to all involved and congratulations to the Badgers for organising and delivering a great day!
Congratulations to our P7s for completing their leadership course with Fin, our Active Schools Co-ordinator, this week! They completed their final task of delivering and co-ordinating games with the P6s that they created themselves. This included Seaweed and Shark Attack! We are so proud of what they have all achieved, they received high praise from Fin for their organisation, communication and team work skills - well done!
Our P7s are taking part in skiing at the Cairngorms over the coming weeks. Alvie have joined up with Newtonmore and Kingussie primary 7 classes for this activity to allow the pupils to build relationships with pupils they will attend Kingussie High School with.
The Badgers and Foxes were given an online talk by Jenni from Skyscanner on Monday. She gave them lots of handy tips of how to promote a destination for their Continents and Cultures project. Thank you Jenni!
A group of P7s took part in the regional P7 Rotary Quiz in Aviemore on Tuesday evening. They did an amazing job of representing the school and really enjoyed the experience. They didn't make it through to the next round but did Alvie very proud - well done!
The Badger cubs would like to wish their sows (Mummy badgers 🦡) a lovely Mothers Day on Sunday 10th March. We hope you like your homemade cards.
The Pupil Council organised an amazing Rainbow Day for Red Nose Day on Friday 15th March! Pupils dressed up in colourful clothes and participated in our joke competition to raise money for charity. Well done to all our Badgers🦡who took to the hot seat and told a joke on the day!
Our Term 3 homework project has been to create a scrapbook about a country as part of our Continents and Cultures project. Pupils who created a scrapbook presented them to the school at Assembly on Friday. We are so impressed with all the projects the pupils have worked so hard on, with so much creativity and imagination shown. Well done to all the Badgers who participated! 🤩
Term 3 Week 11
A big thank you to Ali (Rafe's Mum) who brought in beads, banana leaf baskets and other items from her trip to Uganda. The class really enjoyed trying on the beads which are made from glossy paper such as calendars.
Our P7s were very excited this week to receive their leaver hoodies for their last term at Alvie Primary School!
The Badgers kicked off our Reading School focus this week with a number of activities centred around The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde. This included writing our own version of the story and a mime drama lesson acting out scenes from the book. They also participated in our read to someone activity, reading with pupils from the Otters and Foxes
Polly from the Cairngorm National Park kindly joined us on Friday to talk about the park and to do some map work. The Badgers built jigsaws, did some work with ordnance survey maps and built models of the park's natural features including the mountains, forests and wildlife.
With the P6 class at the A9 Roadshow we welcomed the Otters to the Badgers class to help with some gardening on Wednesday. The P7s led the activity to conduct a tidy of the flowerbeds, weeding and digging over the soil. Well done for doing such a great job!

The Badgers took part in the 2nd section delivered by Cairngorm National Park this week, focussing on the nature of the park by playing different games.
The Badgers tried out some numeracy problem solving questions on Tuesday. We discussed the different strategies approaching problems - reading the question, highlighting key words/phrases, determining the strategy, checking their answer and discussing their methods. They did extremely well for the first session - well done!
The Badgers got to try out some of the games they created during Reading Schools week with the help of the Foxes on Tuesday afternoon. This included a game called Garden Elements, a tig game and a capture the flag style game. They did a great job of explaining and delivering the games to their classmates - well done!
The Badgers were lucky to be joined by rugby coaches from the UHI and the Highlands for a training session on the village green on Friday. They had a great time learning new skills, trying out drills and mini matches!
The Badgers were joined by Jim Crompton a local author for a chat about his published books and a writing workshop. Thanks to Jim for his insightful talk, the children really enjoyed the session 📚
The P7s attended a Science Day at Kingussie High School along with other P7s they will attend the high school with next year. They undertook a full science experience on flight and helicopters. Got a talk from a real life helicopter pilot and experimented with paper aeroplanes. They had a great time, and got a real flavour for high school ahead of their transition days next month.
As part of our Reading Schools Award we joined a Waterstones Book Workshop online on Tuesday. We heard from some authors about how they created their characters - unicorns and dragons. The pupils then created their own versions based on the workshop.
The P7s organised and delivered a bake sale on Friday to raise funds for their end of term activities and something of their choosing (yet to be decided!) to leave a legacy at the school. Kincraig Coffee Morning kindly let us join them to sell cakes and we sold to pupils and parents at the school. They managed to raise over £400 - congratulations for your amazing efforts P7s! Thank you to the Kincraig Coffee Morning and everyone else who supported the event. 🎂🍪🍩😊👍
