Welcome back to school

Here is Alvie 23/24 - Badgers, Foxes and Otters are enjoying their new classes.

NEW VALUE and NEW ACHIEVEMENT SKILL

We have introduce our new VALUE this week - POLITENESS. We have talked lots about being polite in school and at home.

Our new skills are CONCENTRATION and PATIENCE.

Term 4-Welcome Back

Welcome back to Term 4. This is what is happening this term

1) Reading School Fortnight- we will be promoting the importanc eof reading and getting out children to really master reading to someone and listening to stories.

2) Ancient Civilisations- our big project is all about people and the past. Watch out for a great IDL homeowrk project and lots of fun facts

3) Transition time - we will be preparing our pupils for their next steps and helping them to work with strategies to support change.

Plus, we have lots of parners working with us an our school trip

Summer games afternoon and leavers assembly will be in the last week of term.

Our School Trips

As we reach the end of term we always go on a whole school trip. This year we went to Blair Drummond Safari park and it was amazing. We had great weather, a huge amountof animals to look at and lots of play areas too. We even saw Dinosaurs.

It was a lovely way to end the term.

P7 leavers tree prints

Our wonderful P7 have made Alvie History by printing their hand on to their leavers tree. Thank you to Claire for coming in and supporting the children each year with this tradition.

We had a wonderful night with P7 to celebrate them moving from Alvie to KHS. It was an absolute pleasure to spend an evening with this great bunch. Pizza, chips, ice cream, water fun and hide n seek...a fab night!

Drama at Alvie

On Friday we celebrated our IDL unit Ancient civilisations. It was a brilliant morning of Greek, Roman and Egyptian myths and legends all performed by each class.

Sports Day at Alvie Term 4 Week 9

We had a lovely afternoon at The Village Green! Thank you to Mrs. Douglas for organising another great event. Well done everyone!

Ancient Civilisations Homework Term 4 Week 9

As part of their Term 4 homework pupils were asked to become a town planner - creating a 2D map of their own settlement from an ancient civilisation. Pupils were asked to name their settlements influenced by the chosen civilisation. We had an amazing response to the homework with an incredible array of maps of civilisations and sizes. Well done to all those who created a map, an incredible effort!

P7 Bake Sale Term 4 Week 8

The P7s organised and delivered a bake sale on Friday to raise funds for their end of term activities and something of their choosing (yet to be decided!) to leave a legacy at the school. Kincraig Coffee Morning kindly let us join them to sell cakes and we sold to pupils and parents at the school. They managed to raise over £400 - congratulations for your amazing efforts P7s! Thank you to the Kincraig Coffee Morning and everyone else who supported the event. 🎂🍪🍩😊👍

P7 Curling Term 4 Week 7

The P7s attended a curling session in Aviemore on Monday. They had a great time learning all the skills!

Reading Rainbow 🌈1st Awards Term 4 Week 5

As part of our Reading Schools Award we have setup a reading scheme for pupils to track and be awarded for the books they read at home and in school. In completing a book pupils get asked comprehension questions about their book and get awarded a bookmark for different stages, depending on the number of books read. We awarded our first Red bookmarks on Friday at Assembly - well done to all those who achieved this first reading milestone! 📚

Gardening Day - Term 4 Week 4

On Friday we got together as a school to plant out bedding plants kindly donated by pupils and their families. We also gave the garden a good old tidy up! Well done to everyone for all their hard work and thank you to those you donated plants! 🌱

HIGHLAND HOSPICE DAY - Term 4 Week 3

As a whole school, we came together to plant sunflowers and to meet Bobby the Bee. There was also a drawing competition which Struan and Archie won.

We had a great day and raised £45 which we gave to Louise to support her with her fundraising for the Hospice.

Reading Schools Term 4 Week 2

For our second week of Reading Schools we continued our Read to Someone sessions with the whole school. The pupils also planned and wrote their own versions of the stories they have been focussing on and wrote book reviews on their Read to Self books.

RRS - Earth Day Litter Pick Term 4 Week 2

Our Rights Respecting Schools (RRS) Committee held a litter pick for the school on Monday for Earth Day. In teams the pupils went around all areas of the playground picking litter and other items. Afterwards we discussed what we had found, the harm to the environment they cause and what we could do to make our school more environmentally friendly. Well done to everyone.

P7s Hoodies Term 4 Week 1

Our P7s were very excited to receive their leavers hoodies this week for their last term at Alvie Primary School.

Reading School Week Term 4 Week 1

During Week 1 and 2 of Term 4 we are focussing on working towards our Reading Schools Award. We kicked it off with a read to someone session on Wednesday afternoon. The children also received their own personalised bookmark to track the books they read this term.

Term 3 -Welcome Back

Welcome back to Term 3. It a very busy term with 3 main focusses

1) Marvellous Materials - Hi QUAT will be sent home for you to share your child's work

2) Continents and Cultures- our big project is an opportunity for us to travel the world and find out facts about the people and animals who live on Planet Earth. Another Hi QUAT will be sent home at the end of term

3) Open afternoon - we will have an open afternoon to celebrate all the projects in term 3.

Plus, we have Comic Relief, PE at the Hall and Active kids

Easter Egg Hunt

Term 3 Week 12

The Primary 7s organised a great Easter egg-stravaganza event this morning for the rest of the school 🐰🐣The pupil's hunting skills were put to the test to find the hidden eggs in the Easter egg hunt. They then took part in a huge game of hide and seek with the winners receiving an Easter prize. Well done to the P7s for organising and delivering such a fab event!

Continents and Cultures Open Afternoon Term 3 Week 12

On Wednesday this week we had the finale of our Continents and Cultures project - our open afternoon - Around the World with Alvie! We displayed all the children's amazing work from art to written pieces throughout the whole school, with a room representing each continent. The children loved showing their parents around, showing off all the hard work they've done this term - well done to everyone!

UHI Shinty Term 3 Week 12

A group of Foxes and Badgers took part in the UHI Shinty tournament this week. They really enjoyed playing against other teams and did a fantastic job representing Alvie - well done to all involved! 😀

Easter Egg Competition and Rolling Term 3 Week 12

This week we had our annual Easter egg competition and rolling. The children decorated one egg to roll down the hill to see which could go the furthest and another in a creative design for our competition. Well done to all the children who participated!

McRobert Cup

Term 3 Week 11

Twelve Alvie pupils took part in the McRobert Cross Country Cup Event in Inverness this week. They all ran their socks off and did the school proud!

Project Homework

Term 3 Week 10

Our Term 3 homework project has been to create a scrapbook about a country as part of our Continents and Cultures project. Pupils who created a scrapbook presented them to the school at Assembly on Friday. We are so impressed with all the projects the pupils have worked so hard on, with so much creativity and imagination shown - well done!

Red Nose Day Term 3 Week 10

The Pupil Council organised an amazing Rainbow Day for Red Nose Day on Friday 15th March! Pupils dressed up in colourful clothes and participated in our joke competition to raise money for charity. Well done to all those who took to the hot seat and told a joke on the day! Overall we raised £44.50 😊👍

Dr Bike visits the school Term 3 Week 9

We have been very lucky to have Dr Bike come in to check our bikes over ready for the spring cycling session to begin.

The new friendship Arch Term 3 Week 9

Our Rights Respecting Schools Ambassadors and Mrs Dingwall have been busy getting the new friendship arch in place for the school. This is a quiet seating area for friends to chat and relax.

World Book Day 2024 Term 3 Week 9

This year we have brought in books from around the world to share for our special WORLD BOOK DAY 2024. We have enjoyed reading our books outside and listening to others read.

Skyscanner Talk Term 3 Week 9

The Badgers and Foxes were given an online talk by Jenni from Skyscanner on Monday. She gave them lots of handy tips of how to promote a destination for their Continents and Cultures project. Thank you Jenni!

P7 Rotary Quiz Term 3 Week 9

A group of P7s took part in the regional P7 Rotary Quiz in Aviemore on Tuesday evening. They did an amazing job of representing the school and really enjoyed the experience. They didn't make it through to the next round but did Alvie very proud - well done!

P7 Skiing Term 3 Week 8

Our P7s are taking part in skiing at the Cairngorms over the coming weeks. Alvie have joined up with Newtonmore and Kingussie primary 7 classes for this activity to allow the pupils to build relationships with pupils they will attend Kingussie High School with.

P7 Leadership Term 3 Week 8

Congratulations to our P7s for completing their leadership course with Fin, our Active Schools Co-ordinator, this week! They completed their final task of delivering and co-ordinating games with the P6s that they created themselves. This included Seaweed and Shark Attack! We are so proud of what they have all achieved, they received high praise from Fin for their organisation, communication and team work skills - well done!

Antarctica Day Term 3 Week 7

As part of our current project The Badgers class organised a morning of activities on Friday for all classes to learn about Antarctica. We started with a presentation with lots of facts about the continent, followed by activities such as beat the goalie, a scavenger hunt and true or false to test our new knowledge! This was followed up by an art activity creating some impressive Antarctica animals. Well done to all involved and congratulations to the Badgers for organising and delivering a great day!

Continents and Cultures Visitors (Zambia and The Netherlands) Term 3 Week 6

As part of our current project we were very lucky to be joined by more parents again this week to talk to us about their countries and cultures. On Monday we were joined by Emma (Blair's Mum) who chatted to us about Zambia. On Friday we were joined by Nicole (Joep's Mum) who told us all about The Netherlands. The pupils enjoyed hearing all about their different cultures and asked lots of amazing questions. Thanks to Emma and Nicole for presenting!

Continents and Cultures Visitors (Czech Republic, Mexico & Chile) Term 3 Week 5

As part of our new project we were very lucky to be joined by parents this week to talk to us about their countries and cultures. On Monday we were joined by Kat (Coral's Mum) who chatted to us about the Czech Republic. On Wednesday we were joined by Rachel (Lila's Mum) who told us all about Mexico, and Christian (Maiten's Dad) joined us to talk about Chile. The pupils enjoyed hearing all about their different cultures and asked lots of amazing questions. Thanks to Kat, Rachel and Christian for presenting!

Term 2 -Welcome Back

Welcome back to Term 2. It a very busy term with 3 main focusses

1) Sensational Stories project - Homework and open afternoon

2) Getting Greener - a new project looking at how we can save and reuse energy

3) Christmas - lots of fun at the end of term.

Plus, we have Halloween, Alltnacriche, Parents evening and Remembrance Sunday too.

Christmas Lunch 2023

A fantastic lunch with all the trimmings was on the munu today. Thank you to Lizzy and the catering team for all the hard work. We really enjoyed the dinner, crackers, music and fun.

Science Fair Term 2 Week 5

The Foxes and Otters attended the Science Fair at Kincraig Hall this week. The classes learnt all about energy by conducting a series of experiments with electronic devices, batteries and balloons.

Children in Need Term 2 Week 4

The pupils took part in a Children in Need run or walk a mile activity organised by the Pupil Council. As a school we managed to raise an amazing £69.26. Well done everyone!

Remembrance Day at School

Our pupils marked the occasion by creating beautiful pieces of art and making a large Poppy collage. Many of the children attended the service in the village and contributed by reading a poem and laying two wreaths.

Alltnacriche 2023

P7 are having a fabulous time at Alltnacriche. They have taken part in its of activities such as bush craft, scavenger hunts, zip wiring and rock climbing. They have enjoyed meeting P7 children from other schools too.

Term 2 - Halloween 2023

A fantastic event was organised by the Pupil Council - the children enjoyed the dancing, food, spooky games and craft.

Some amazing costumes and lots of spooky smiles.

Term 2 - Sensational Stories Homework Project

This term's homeowrk has been a huge success. The children have really gone to town to create magnificient characters.

There are robots, pumpkins, forest & nature and animal characters to share.

This will be on display at our OPEN AFTERNOON this week. Plus, you can read your child's story about a sensational story.

Term 1 -P7 Sponsor day leadership

WOW - we raised over £650 - totally amazing.
