The Math Behind Alacrity Genetics

Many people wonder how genetics work on Alacrity, or how a pup's marking choices happen.

The Genetics for Coat Color:

46.666% chance to be mom's coat color

46.666% chance to be dad's coat color

6.666% chance for a random coat color

The random coat has a chance percentage based on the commonality of the coat.

Random coat chances:

65% chance of a common coat

20% chance of a rare coat

10% chance of a very rare coat

5% chance of an ultra rare coat

The Genetics for Eye Color:

46.666% chance to be mom's eye color

46.666% chance to be dad's eye color

6.666% chance for a random eye color

The random eye color has a chance percentage based on the commonality of the eye color.

Random eye color chances:

65% chance of a common eye color

20% chance of a rare eye color

10% chance of a very rare eye color

5% chance of an ultra rare eye color

The Genetics for White and Tan Markings:

93% chance of getting a white or tan marking number between mom and dad's number*

7% chance of getting a random white marking

The random White/Tan Marking has a chance percentage based on the commonality of the marking.

65% chance of a common white or tan marking

20% chance of a rare white or tan marking

10% chance of a very rare white or tan marking

5% chance of an ultra rare white or tan marking

*For example, if the mother had a White7 marking and the father had a White1 marking, the Pup could have a marking between White1 and White7.

The Genetics for Secondary Markings:

46.666% chance of mom's secondary

46.666% chance of dad's secondary

6.666% chance of random secondary

If random secondary:

50% chance of no marking at all

50% chance of completely random

Random Secondary Chances:

33.333% brown secondary

33.333% black secondary

33.333% white secondary

After a color is chosen for the random secondary, the marking of that color is based on rarity:

65% chance of a common secondary

20% chance of a rare secondary

10% chance of a very rare secondary

5% chance of an ultra rare secondary

Opacity of Secondary Markings:

If the marking is inherited from a parent, it checks to see if the other parent has the same marking in a nearby slot. If they do, the opacity is the average between the two. If not, they inherit the parent's opacity.

If it's a random marking, they get a completely random opacity.
