The American Pit Bull Terrier was the 10th breed to be introduced to Alacrity.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is an active, energetic, and agile breed. The crossing of Bulldogs and Terriers in the 19th century in England, Scotland, and Ireland created a new breed. This breed was viewed as a warrior: strong, courageous, but gentle with loved ones. Imported to the United States, the Bulldog - Terrier crosses were used as catch dogs for semi-wild stock, livestock drivers, and family pets.

The APBT is of medium size with a muscular, stocky build. A short, smooth coat covers a compact and well-built body. Displaying the characteristics of strength and confidence, the Pit Bull is an amazing working breed in all venues. They make excellent family companions, and have been noted to have a love of children. However, the strength of the APBT as well as a slight predisposition to dog aggression requires an owner who will take the time to socialise and train their dog. They are not characteristically aggressive, though they are protective. They are an intelligent dog and very eager to work.
