Abstract:
Global statistics from the World Health Organization indicate that over 35 percent of women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence during their lives. Ensuring women's safety remains a persistent challenge across diverse environments, with vulnerability amplified when traveling alone, particularly in isolated or perilous locations. Frequently, victims in distress are unable to solicit timely assistance. To address this critical gap, this paper introduces "Women's Safety and Security," an Android-based mobile application designed to proactively aid women in vulnerable situations. The application's core functionality allows users to instantly trigger an emergency alert-via a simple shake gesture or button click-dispatching a distress message and initiating a security call to pre-designated contacts. This rapid alert system facilitates swift location tracking of the user, thereby enabling timely intervention and rescue efforts. By leveraging a user-friendly shake-to-alert mechanism, the application automatically transmits an SMS containing the user's GPS coordinates to emergency contacts. The "Women's Safety and Security" application offers a valuable tool for proactively informing and updating trusted individuals when a user encounters potentially unsafe circumstances, thereby contributing to enhanced personal security.
