Abstract:
Data management and integration are often hindered by the challenge of record linkage: identifying and connecting records that refer to the same entity across different sources. Because exact matching is prone to failure due to data entry errors and inconsistencies, a more flexible approach is required. This paper presents a novel solution: a configurable and extensible fuzzy matching system built as an ASP.NET Core Web API. Our system gives users unprecedented control. Through external configuration, they can define granular, field-specific matching strategies, from selecting various fuzzy string comparison algorithms to setting individual field weights and applying custom preprocessing logic. It doesn't just provide a score; the system offers detailed outputs, including Soundex comparisons and per-field details, facilitating a transparent and iterative approach to refining matching rules. We will explore the framework's architecture, its core matching engine, API design, and performance optimizations, such as dynamic blocking. This framework is designed to provide developers with a powerful, adaptable tool for integrating sophisticated fuzzy record linkage capabilities into their .NET applications.
