Abstract:
Record linkage, the process of identifying and linking records that refer to the same entity across different data sources, is a critical challenge in data management and integration. Exact matching often fails due to data entry errors, inconsistencies in representation, and missing information, necessitating fuzzy matching techniques. This paper describes a configurable and extensible fuzzy matching system developed as an asp .net core web api. The system allows users to define granular, field-wise matching strategies through external configuration, including the selection of various fuzzy string comparison algorithms, individual field weighting, and custom preprocessing logic for specific data types. It provides detailed match outputs, including overall similarity scores, Soundex comparisons, and per-field comparison details, facilitating transparency and iterative refinement of matching rules. We discuss the architecture, core matching engine, API design, and performance optimization strategies such as dynamic blocking for cross-recordset comparisons. The framework aims to provide a practical and adaptable solution for developers needing to integrate fuzzy record linkage capabilities into .NET applications.
