What is the point? Great revision. Retention is an ongoing issue in mathematics. Great for the learning habits of connect, reflect, strive and reflect. If the cards were also in PDF form students could study the games questions and answers privately at home, so they can look smart in front of their peers.
What is the point? Students get to solve algebraic equations, helping each other, in a social context. It might be more fun than doing exercises and it might help the engagement and retention levels.
Land Grab - Solving Algebraic Equations
Player A and B take turns. The aim is to make the most connections with their own land. At the end players count the score of each of their connected cards. Therefore a card can be worth 0,1,2,3 or 4 points. The highest score wins.
In the Linear Equation Game players can choose to use the GRADIENT or the Y-Intercept. So these cards could provide the same options. Or, throw a dice and substitute the dice value for x, and use the y value. The options are endless. (Eg, instead of a dice, use the SOLVING cards). The culture of the classroom is to PLAY our way to algebraic success.
