Thomas L. Wyatt is a native of Wichita Falls, Texas. He moved to Chattanooga at age 2 and received education in the Hamilton County public schools. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Judge Wyatt was later named as the Outstanding Political Science graduate during UTC’s honors day ceremony.
Judge Wyatt graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law. During law school he received American Jurisprudence awards for achieving the highest grades in Torts, Contracts, Civil Procedure and Constitutional Law and was admitted into the Order of the Coif.
Judge Wyatt clerked for the Honorable Herschel P. Franks of the Tennessee Court of Appeals before embarking upon a 32-year career with the Chattanooga law firm that eventually became Summers & Wyatt, P.C. He achieved the highest rating assigned by Martindale Hubbell during his career as a practicing lawyer and served two terms as a hearing officer for the Board of Professional Responsibility. In 2014, he was named a Fellow of the Chattanooga Bar Foundation.
Judge Wyatt joined the Court of Workers’ Compensation Claims in June 2014 after being appointed as one of the eight original judges of the Court. He has benefited from training at the National Judicial College and the National Association of Workers’ Compensation Judges during his term on the court.
Judge Wyatt is married and has two grown sons and three grandsons. He is a deacon and Sunday School teacher in his church and enjoys sports, yard work and watching his grandsons play all sports, but especially baseball.
