The Outdoor Education Pathway aims to provide students with opportunities to have greater access to UWC Thailand’s Outdoor Education program. Through the pathway program, students in Grades 11 and 12 can choose from a variety of routes that include environmental stewardship, climbing, sailing, kayaking, diving, mountainbiking and first aid. By taking one or a combination of these courses, students can significantly enhance their abilities. The pathway offers multiple options, allowing students to create a framework that best suits their individual needs. For those passionate to extend their opportunities there is also the chance to gain internationally recognized certifications, or even pursue instructor qualifications.
Moreover, this pathway provides an opportunity to facilitate significant periods of outdoor education without disrupting curriculum time, as these programs are be primarily facilitated through co-curricular programming. This means that students can participate in outdoor education activities outside of their regular class schedules, giving them the chance to fully immerse themselves in these experiences while still maintaining their academic progress.
The Grade 11 and Grade 12 camps are a wonderful way for diploma students to both start and finish their UWC Thailand journey, respectively. These two camp experiences offer students the opportunity to develop important skills, build relationships with their peers, set goals for their future and reflect on their personal growth and development.
Grade 11 camp is is held during the first week of school. This camp is designed to help students familiarize themselves with the UWC Thailand diploma community and start their two-year journey in a positive and constructive way. During this camp, students will engage in a variety of activities, both service and outdoor oriented.
The aim of the camp is to create a sense of community and togetherness among the students, as they embark on their UWC journey. The service activities will help students develop a sense of social responsibility, and the outdoor activities will help them develop a sense of camaraderie.
The students will also participate in a similar experience in their last week of school, as they prepare to transition to the next chapter of their lives. During this closing camp, the focus will be on saying goodbye mindfully and preparing for change in a way that is symbolically significant. This experience will help students reflect on their time at UWC Thailand, celebrate their achievements, and prepare for their future endeavors.
