Secondary School Outdoor Education

Everyone gets involved

At UWC Thailand, our secondary school Outdoor Education Program is designed to challenge and inspire students through a variety of activity-based experiences. From hiking and navigation to kayaking, dinghy sailing, climbing, and keelboat sailing, our program offers a range of opportunities for students to engage with nature and develop important life skills.

Our Outdoor Education program uses these activities as developmental stages in the lead-up to camp experiences or building upon the experiences at camp. Through these experiences, students learn about teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and resilience, gaining the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Students also have an amazing yearly camp that takes place between 6-10 days depending on grade level. These programs offer students the opportunity to engage with nature, push themselves out of their comfort zones, develop leadership skills, and build lasting relationships with their peers.

Both during camp and the outdoor education units teachers work closely with students to create a safe and supportive learning environment, encouraging them to step out of their comfort zones and embrace new challenges. From overcoming a fear of heights while climbing to navigating unfamiliar terrain on a hike, our students learn to push themselves beyond their perceived limitations and discover new strengths and abilities.

Older students are provided with a personalised pathway for outdoor education as a valuable way to engage and challenge them while also giving them the opportunity to pursue their interests and passions. We understand that every student has unique needs and goals, which is why we offer a range of activities that students can choose from, both during and after school.

Students can select activities such as hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, sailing, mountain biking, and more, depending on their interests and availability, whether that means focusing on building technical skills, gaining internationally recognized certifications, or even pursuing instructor qualifications. For students who are interested in pursuing instructor qualifications, we provide mentorship and training opportunities to help them achieve their goals.

At UWC Thailand, we believe that the Outdoor Education Program is an essential component of our holistic approach to education. Through these experiences, our students gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world and develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.
