Grade 4
Outdoor Education: Climbing
The climbing unit for Grade 4 students is designed to introduce young adventurers to the exciting world of rock climbing, fostering both physical fitness and personal growth. This program includes sessions at an indoor climbing gym, where students learn the basics of climbing techniques, safety protocols, and equipment handling. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, they practice climbing on various routes tailored to different skill levels, gradually building their strength, coordination, and confidence. The climbing walls provide a controlled environment where students can safely challenge themselves, learning to navigate obstacles and develop problem-solving skills as they plot their routes upward.
In addition to the physical benefits, the climbing unit emphasises important life skills of perseverance, teamwork, and trust. Students often participate in belaying activities, where they learn to support and protect their climbing partners, fostering a strong sense of responsibility and cooperation. Through these experiences, they gain an appreciation for the importance of clear communication and mutual support in achieving common goals.Â
