Grade 5

Outdoor Education: Kayaking

The Grade 5 Outdoor Education Unit is designed to teach students the essential paddling skills needed to navigate coastal water efficiently and effectively. Through this program, students will learn the proper techniques and skills required to paddle a kayak.

The key paddling skills that will be taught in this program include body posture and positioning, paddle strokes, steering and maneuvering, and balance and stability. Students will also learn how to read the water and understand its currents, tides, and winds.

By mastering these skills and techniques, students will be better equipped to participate in the grade 5 camp later in the year. During the camp, they will be able to confidently navigate the waterways and enjoy the outdoor activities with ease.

Learning these skills will not only help the students during the camp, but it also provides them with a valuable set of life skills that they can use in the future. Paddling is a fun and challenging activity that promotes physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Grade 5 Camp

The Grade 5 camp also takes place in Thai Mueang National Park, Phang Nga where over the course of five days, students embark on a range of exciting activities that encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones and embrace the great outdoors. From exploring the area's stunning natural landscapes to participating in team-building challenges, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

One of the highlights of the camp is the chance for students to connect with each other and form strong bonds as a class.

The camping experience encourages students to work together, share responsibilities and build trust with their peers. Students will learn the importance of communication and collaboration, and how to support each other to overcome challenges.

The activities are designed to challenge and inspire students, while also providing opportunities for relaxation and fun. Swimming and kayaking in the coastal and inland waters provide a refreshing break from the warm weather, while biking through lush green trails and exploring enchanting caves offer a chance to discover new things about the natural world.
