The Grade 10 personalised learning project is an exciting program that takes place during the Experiential Learning class. This project offers students the opportunity to direct their learning towards their own interests and passions while still aligning with the school's mission and values. One of the key benefits of this program is that it allows students to pursue their interests in a way that is tailored to their individual learning styles. For example, many students opt to focus on developing coaching skills, which enables them to hone their communication and leadership abilities. Others choose to pursue first aid certification, which equips them with essential life-saving skills that they can apply in emergencies.
This program also provides students with ample opportunities to engage in outdoor adventurous activities such as kayaking, sailing, and powerboating. These activities not only help students develop physical fitness and endurance, but also foster important skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
The grade 10 students have an unforgettable experience developing their sailing and maritime skills during their 10-day camp. The camp aims to help the students successfully complete a 5-day sailing expedition on 25-foot keel boats called Platu's
In preparation for the journey, the students will spend 4 days training at the Playyard to learn the necessary sailing techniques and safety procedures.
In addition to the sailing expedition, the students will also participate in a day of service with our long-term service partner 'Seeds of Change.' Through this service, the students are able to give back to the local community and learn more about the social issues affecting the region. Overall, the experience is an enriching one for the grade 10 students, allowing them to develop both their sailing skills and their social awareness.
The expedition start in the north of the island, and the students sail to Koh Yao Yai and the surrounding islands. Along the way, the students will encounter various obstacles, but they will work together efficiently as a team to overcome them. The students will have the opportunity to put their sailing knowledge into practice while also enjoying the stunning scenery of the surrounding islands.
The students enjoy the experience of roughing it in the great outdoors, and it helps them to appreciate the natural beauty of their surroundings. The experience is truly epic, and the students always return home with a newfound appreciation for sailing and life in the outdoors.
