Project Refuge is part of an ongoing collaboration between HCDE and the Seattle Public Library exploring how to support positive teen mental health. For the last six months, we have centered teen voices through methods such as co-design to explore how the library can leverage its unique position to cultivate meaningful opportunities and spaces for teens. Based on our findings we’ve created the Project Refuge Playbook, a scalable framework to support public libraries in creating spaces where teens can find sanctuary from daily stressors, build community, and take ownership of spaces designed entirely for them.
