🏆 2023 CAPSTONE AWARD: IMPACT 🏆

Located in Seattle’s Pioneer Square, TASWIRA is an African art gallery experimenting with ways to support underrepresented artisans and entrepreneurs while engaging the local community. TASWIRA is a multifaceted space that displays art from local BIPOC artists alongside African sculptural pieces, artifacts, and handcrafted goods. The gallery also hosts events ranging from movie screenings to small business networking events.  //  Our capstone team partnered with TASWIRA’s founder, Avery Barnes, to explore how we might improve the visitor experience and encourage deeper engagement within the space. Our solution leverages storytelling, transparency, and intentional affordances to contextualize visitors’ experiences, promote trust in the organization, and bolster connection through physical and intellectual interaction. After several rounds of research, design iteration, and physical prototyping, we were given the opportunity to implement two permanent, interactive installations in the TASWIRA gallery, debuting June 1, 2023.
