Childcare work, as an occupation, is extremely important for countless families in the US, however, they are among the most under-resourced occupation. We work under a project aiming to explore the use of novel technologies to help childcare workers’ training and registration, funded by the National Science Foundation. For the current project, we focused our research on understanding current experience with training and certificate registration, the needs, wants, pain points, and struggles of childcare workers. Emphasizing the needs front and center while understanding the working context, we brainstorm and propose various concepts and explore innovative methods such as AR/VR in the hope to assist the training of future childcare professionals, with the goal of enhancing both the level and quantity of care provided.
