The UW Center on Human Development and Disability (CHDD) makes important contributions to the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families through a comprehensive array of research, clinical services, training, community outreach, and dissemination activities. Our goal is to improve the interior physical wayfinding of the building for visitors and patients alike to mitigate any stressors on the overall patient and family experience. We focused heavily on user research and physical prototyping throughout our process. Not only have we helped clinicians revisit ideas for fostering patient-friendly experiences, we have learned a lot about applying the human-centered design process to a physical space.
