Steps

  1. Qualified professional

  • Work shall be completed by a licenced and RMGA certified HVAC professional where required

2. Visual inspection

  • Inspect the water heater for the following: Water or fuel leaks, P&T valve ( piped within 6" of the floor), gas shutoff (should be able to turn by hand), venting issues, damaged wiring, corrosion, flame rollout, general condition of components.

3. Verify & adjust gas pressure

  • Verify the inlet and outlet gas pressure(s) are within manufacture specs.

4. Clean the burner

  • Make sure all soot and other obstructions are removed from the burner plate

5. Clean the burner chamber

  • Vacuum out the burner chamber removing any particles

6. Post - Draft & combustion testing

  • Conduct a Worst Case draft test to verify Category I, II, and III appliances are venting safely before leaving home for the day.

  • Testing shall be recorded using the Utah WAP Worst Case Draft Test form.

7. Fill out checklist

  • Fill out the Water heater safety checklist and place a copy on the client file.

8. Green Sticker the appliance

  • Fill out and post a Green Sticker per the Good Practices guide
