Egress windows and safety glass will be installed in accordance with local codes
Workers need to wear the proper PPE (e.g. kevlar cut resistant sleeves, kevlar gloves, safety glasses,etc.)
Review work orders to determine if Lead Safe RRP is required.
When required, follow RRP guidance as listed in the LEAD Safe work measure.
Laydown drop cloths, cover or move items out of the work area that could get damaged.
Prior to removing the old window double check the measurements of the new window.
Measure the width and height of your opening and compare it to the new window.
Interior stops, sashes, parting strips, and pulleys will be removed.
This step will vary with different types of window frames and methods (e.g. wood, steel, aluminum, etc.)
Remove glass and frame while keeping damage to interior and exterior finishes at a minimum.
Vacuum and clean opening, caulk and seal any cracks or holes.
Realign weather barrier when applicable prior to installing the new window
If your working with a flush fin window you may need to cut the fin to fit the opening
For stucco exterior the window flange will sit on the stucco
For brick exterior trim the window fin as needed to fit tight against the brick facade
For siding exteriors the window will need to seal to the J channel
Insert window into opening
Shim the window to hold it square.
Both vertical jambs of the window sash need to be fastened high & low, windows larger than 4 feet in either direction need additional fasteners.
Seal gaps between the new window sash and rough opening to complete the air boundary.
Gaps that are bigger than a 1/4" will be covered with trim. Note: all bare wood shall be primed
Occupants will be notified of changes or repairs made and will be educated on how to operate and maintain new window
Conduct a Worst Case draft test to verify Category I, II, and III appliances are venting safely before leaving home for the day.
Testing shall be recorded using the Utah WAP Worst Case Draft Test form.
