Air Sealed Floor
Remove any existing insulation to gain access to any penetrations or bypasses
Clean floor by vacuuming or sweeping away any debris that is existing as opportunity allows.
This will help to properly apply sealant to air seal space.
Use appropriate sealant to seal joists, cracks, plumbing penetrations.
Use backing or infill that will prevent sag or movement once sealing materials are installed.
Sealant must be compatible with all adjoining surfaces.
Stuff large gap with fiberglass batt, and spray foam over the top to seal the surface of this plug.
Use rigid material such as drywall or wood sheathing for bypasses and other large openings.
Secure to the floor using nails or screws.
Seal around the edges of rigid material using appropriate sealant.
Look for cable and electrical wiring penetrations in floor assembly.
Seal any wiring penetrations that go through panned joists.
Use appropriate sealant to seal around wire penetrations
Use appropriate sealant to seal around plumbing penetrations.
If annular space (gap) around plumbing penetrations is greater than 1/2" use other methods "Seal gaps with batt and foam" or "Seal gaps with rigid material".
Seal around plumbing penetrations that pass through panned joist spaces.
Use appropriate sealant to seal around duct penetrations.
Seal the edges of panned joist spaces and the knockouts of I-Joists that have been panned for return air.
If penetrations is is greater than 1/2" use other methods "Seal gaps with batt and foam" or "Seal gaps with rigid material".
Use appropriate sealant to seal around open chasses.
If gap around this open chase is too large. Use one of the methods "Seal gaps with batt and foam" or "Seal gaps with rigid material".
Before reinstalling insulation take photos of area that will now be covered with insulation.
Reinstall insulation that was removed in step 1.
Follow step from "Insulation: Batts" to properly reinstall these batts
Conduct a Worst Case draft test to verify Category I, II and III appliances are venting safely before leaving home for the day.
Testing shall be recorded using the Utah WAP Worst Case Draft Test form.
