Reading Literature / Reading Informational Text – (On-going throughout the year)

• RL 7.1 – Cite textual evidence that strongly supports what text says & inferences drawn

• RL 7.2 / RI 7.2 – Determine theme / main idea of text; analyze development; provide summary

• RL 7.3 – Analyze how story elements interact

• RI 7.3 – Analyze how text makes connections among & between individuals, ideas, events

• RI 7.4 – Determine meaning of words / phrases used in text to include figurative & connotative, technical meanings; analyze impact of word choices on meaning & tone

• RL 7.5 – Analyze how a drama’s or poem’s structure contributes to its meaning

• RI 7.5 – Analyze the structure author uses to organize text including how major sections contribute to whole & development of ideas

• RL 7.6 – Analyze how author develops & contrasts pts of view of different characters

• RI 7.6 – Determine author’s pt. of view / purpose; analyze how author distinguishes his/her position from others’

• RL 7.7 – Compare-contrast written story, drama, poem to its multimedia version; analyze effects

Writing

• W 7.3 – Write Narratives

a. Orient reader by establishing context & pt. of view; introduce character; logical sequencing

b. Use dialogue, pacing, description to develop events / characters

c. Use a variety of transitions to convey sequence, time / location shifts

d. Use precise words & phrases, relevant descriptive details, sensory language to capture events

e. Provide conclusion that follows & reflects narrated experiences or events

• W 7.4 – Produce clear & coherent writing in which development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

• W 7.5 – With guidance, develop & strengthen writing through the writing process

• W 7.6 – Use technology, including Internet, to produce and publish writing; link to and cite sources; collaborate with others

• W 7.7 – Conduct short research projects to answer a question; draw on several sources; generate additional questions for further research & investigation

c. Consult general reference materials, both print & digital, to find pronunciation of word, determine precise meaning, or parts of speech
