As part of its tradition, the University Research Center held another Research Colloquium before the end of the school year.On June 8, 2024, the highly anticipated research colloquium took place at the New Building's AVR room, bringing together college students from various departments to compete in four categories aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3 for Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4 for Quality Education, SDG 8 for Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 17 for Partnerships for the Goals.
The day began with the opening ceremonies, which were graced by the presence of Madam President Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya herself, despite the event being rescheduled from its original date in May. The morning session was highlighted by a thought-provoking plenary talk delivered by Dr. Jobert Garfin, who delved into the application of the UN's 17 SDGs and emphasized the paramount importance of sustainability.
As soon as the talk concluded, the participants were escorted by the research coordinators to their assigned rooms, where they engaged with the respective panelists. After a well-deserved lunch break, the colloquium resumed at 1 PM until late afternoon, but by 4 PM, the results were being tabulated to determine the winners: three best papers and one best presenter for each category.
The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as the winners were announced and presented with their certificates. Many celebratory photos were taken, and the prizes were eventually distributed through the research center office the following week.
This colloquium served as a testament to the students' dedication, creativity, and commitment to addressing the pressing challenges outlined in the SDGs. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and showcasing innovative solutions, this event paved the way for a future where sustainable development is at the forefront of our collective efforts.
