In the time of globalization, educational institutions are called upon to gear their efforts toward the realization of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which range from providing quality education, reducing poverty, and creating partnerships that address these others. And what is an educational institution without its knowledge-generating capacity, specifically, research? In alignment with these objectives, the University Research Center had partnered with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), and the Career Center to organize the first of the Annual University Colloquium on Academics, Research, and Extension (UCARE).
The Call for Papers was circulated weeks prior to the event wherein participants could register their titles through Google Forms created by the Research Center; these would later be classified under four categories of SDG and approved based on qualification. On the other hand, the Office of the VPAA had arranged for the catering and securing the speakers while the Career Center would prepare documents for the processing of on-site registration and the score tallying. Furthermore, the Senior High School and Graduate School would provide their assistance in preparing for the venue and its design, among other things. The Marketing Office had also lent its service in officially documenting the event and preparing the audio-visual materials necessary for the audience.
All presenting groups were able to join the plenary talks in the morning, featuring accomplished academics such as Dr. Jonathan Macayan, Engr. Mark Christian Manuel, Dr. Jean Paullete Salalima-Go, and Ms. Coral Taylor from LinkedIn. They discussed relevant topics and perspectives on OBE and sustainable development, as well as employability in the modern age. But the full realization of the event would follow in the afternoon; whether student or faculty, the seasoned and young researchers defended their papers to a challenging trial of questions from their respective panelists. Each parallel session ended after the last presenter and awarding of certificates to the assigned panelists, as well as the OBE presentations.
