STUDENT RESEARCH SUMMIT
"The Work of Discovery: Shaping Futures through Sustainable Insight"
The University of Nueva Caceres (UNC), through its University Research Center (URC), successfully held the Student Research Summit 2026 on April 16, 2026, bringing together student researchers, faculty, and academic leaders to celebrate innovation and scholarly excellence under the theme "The Work of Discovery: Shaping Futures through Sustainable Insight."
UNC President Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya opened the event by highlighting the essential role of research in academic and community development. She encouraged students to build on the work of previous researchers and affirmed that with dedication and passion, UNC's research outputs can compete at the regional, national, and even global stage, ultimately creating real, tangible change in society.
The summit's plenary session featured Dr. Rey-Mark Basagre, LPT, PhD, who challenged attendees to view research not merely as an academic requirement but as a powerful driver of positive societal change. He spotlighted the Philippines' growing need for sustainability research and demonstrated how even modest studies, such as those leading to the commercial development of products like kangkong chips, can yield significant, real-world innovations. His message was clear: no research is too small to matter.
Students presented their work through live classroom presentations and research poster displays, engaging expert panels and fellow researchers alike.
The summit concluded with closing remarks from URC Director Claze Therese Lasala, followed by an awards ceremony recognizing the top three best paper presentations per track and the best research poster, honoring excellence and inspiring the next generation of student researchers at UNC.
