The Center for Nueva Caceres Studies (CENCAST) has been an integral unit within the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Linkages since 2022. It has recently been incorporated into the University Research Center to further strengthen its research capabilities and institutional partnerships. CENCAST is dedicated to advancing scholarly research and fostering collaborative initiatives, with a primary focus on the City of Naga and the Province of Camarines Sur. The Center specializes in interdisciplinary research encompassing history, culture, political science, governance, and public policy.
MISSION
The Office of the Vice for Research, Extension and Linkages is devoted to the extensive integration of research as a vital practice in the University and as an indispensable part of outcomes-based education. It seeks to instill a deeper institutional commitment to robust research programs and research-based projects in the University. It will be the institution that is at the forefront of the University’s agenda in community engagement. It will serve as the primary agent in the establishment and implementation of efforts that would immerse the University community in the social realities of Bicol for the purpose of significantly contributing to holistic, just and sustainable development. It will represent the University in various partnerships, collaborations and other external engagements. It will enable the University to actively take part in broader networks for the exploration, preservation and promotion of Culture and History of the Philippines, especially the Bicol Region. Furthermore, it also will serve as the prime proponent in the University for the study, promotion and enhancement of history, culture, responsible citizenship and good governance in Bicol.
VISION
The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Linkages aspires to the creation of a modern University of Nueva Caceres where the culture of research is an essential component of outcomes-based education and forms part of the fabric of the University community. It seeks the University to have a deeper commitment to the sustainable and positive transformation of society as a vital part in fully realizing the University’s philosophy of Non Scholae Sed Vitae. It envisions the University as a leading institution in the creation of a humane, progressive, stable, just and modern society through robust research programs, community enhancement projects, multi-sectoral partnerships and establishing collaborative networks in the Bicol region. Moreover, it also seeks the University to be a focal point for the promotion of history, culture, responsible citizenship and good governance in the region.
OBJECTIVES
The deep integration of research as part of the culture of the University and as an inalienable component of outcomes-based education in ;
Broadening engagement in research and research-based projects;
Enriching education through immersion in social realities and the active involvement in community extension;
Empower the University to be a leading agent in the promotion of Bicol Culture, history, good governance, responsible citizenship and sustainable development;
Institutionalization of the University as a strategic partner of government, civic society, communities and society’s institutions; and
Represent and enable the University to be a focal point of partnerships, collaborative networks and multi-sectoral engagements.
CENCAST COORDINATOR
The Coordinator for the Center for Nueva Caceres Studies will oversee and manage various research and educational initiatives aimed at promoting the cultural identity and academic excellence of Nueva Caceres. This role involves collaboration with faculty, students, and external stakeholders to facilitate research projects, events, and communication related to the study and promotion of local heritage and culture.
