In the pursuit of research excellence, the University Research Center held a Research Writing Webinar last March 23, 2024. The first of a series of webinars, the activities aim to enrich the research-writing competencies of the university's faculty, non-teaching personnel, and students to enable them to produce compelling studies that have an edge in journal publication.
The first part of the online series featured two prominent researcher-writers. The first speaker, Dr. Erica Silk dela Paz, tackled the topic of how find the gaps in literature and build a proper literature review. Her extensive insight of research databases and tools familiarized the participants with techniques to increase their writing efficiency. The former, coupled with her lessons on constructing an effective comparison and analyses provided the participants an enriching first talk for the program.
The second speaker was a renowned Bicolano, Mr. Dennis Gonzaga. Building upon the previous talk on identifying gap in literature, his talk had focused on crafting one of the most important aspects of academic writing, crafting the research objectives. Sharing many insights and examples, the second talk of the program elaborated on the key aspects of a good research problem. One lucky participant had also secured a free book from the speaker himself during the question-and-answer portion.
At the end of the research webinar, the participants would have been more familiar with conceptualizing research and building their bibliography. What follows these first two challenges in research would be choosing one's methodology. The next part of the series will soon be announced.
