Research Methodology and Data Analysis

In continuation of the University Research Center's Research Writing Series, part two of the lectures was held last May 11, 2024. However, unlike the first series of lectures, the speakers this had requested to be present and give their lectures in person. This led to a hybrid session wherein Dr. Hermie Articona and Dr. Ramachandra Torres gave their lectures to a mix of in-person and online participants.
Dr. Hermie Articona of Mapúa gives an elightening lecture on finding the methodology, the means and ways of research.
The two esteemed speakers hailed from Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna. Dr. Articona is the current Research Director and Dr. Torres currently serves as the Learning Environments and Innovations Office. Each seasoned researchers in their own right, the two speakers designed their lectures to complement each other, which resulted in a comprehensive overview of both qualitative and quantitative research approaches.
While Dr. Articona lectured on the different research methodologies, he gave a brief focus on the different types o and advantages of qualitative methods. This was later followed-up by Dr. Torres as he went in-depth on the different statistical methods used in quantitative approaches, and how these could be used to analyze research data.
Among their participants were not only students from various departments, but some faculty and non-teaching staff as well. These lectures were not only designed to supplement the research writing capacity of employees, but to enrich the young and budding researchers of the university as well.
At the end of the lectures, both doctors entertained various students with their research questions. With the end of the semester fast approaching, many students approached the doctors for advising on their theses. It was an insightful and engaging session for not only the students, but for the speakers as well.
